Shipping temporarily (or forever?) suspended to the US

Posted by Misa on 27th Aug 2025

Hi everyone,

In light of the US tariffs for imports, AusPost (the official postal system in Australia) has halted all parcels being delivered to the US until further notice.
I have also disabled this option selling to the US.

The implication is that

(1) I am unsure if any tariffs collected by the third party service counts as income, despite it being submitted to the US Govt

(2) I am yet to figure out how to add a "handling fee" to cover these tariffs - despite the US Govt stating the tariff is being charged to other countries, I can assure you this is not the case and as a small business, customers are 100% responsible for all tariffs, taxes and duties that apply to their orders. I along with many other business owners cannot operate at a loss, and would probably avoid the US market until it is clear how we are able to collect these monies.

(3) My handmades are all made in Australia. However there are a small number of items such as acrylic keychains, embroidered berets and washi tapes that are made overseas. I cannot control this as these items are not produced in Australia (or are there any local suppliers who can do this at the scale and pricing for me to offer these items at a competitive rate). This makes implications for any tariffs (due to be collected on my end) very tricky to calculate I will only know when I customise each parcel as the third party software will calculate it on a case by case basis - collecting monies at checkout is going to be challenging as I am either charging the minimum or the maximum. And either way I'm unsure if it's going to work out.

Until then please hold tight and we are all just waiting for more information to be shared before we continue sending to the US.
