Preparing for Market Day: Sunday 14th March 2021

Posted by Misa on 26th Feb 2021

Since taking up this creative venture of mine, I've been eyeing and hoping to have a market stall. Not going to lie, I did apply for a specific arts and crafts market, but unfortunately was not shortlisted. That's totally understandable though - I have only been around for a few months, and I wasn't able to show much of the range I had, due to various logistical issues, mostly to do with waiting for parts and finding time to photograph end products. I'll definitely try again later down the track when I am more established and "ready".

I admit, I was pretty upset and feeling a little down because of that, because I really wanted to have a market stall! It wasn't really about the products, it was more about providing everyone with a colourful, vibrant experience. We've been staying at home and some of us in lockdown for a long time, and without overseas travel, I really wanted to bring an overseas experience (festival/ matsuri style) to Sydney. Like, remember back in those days when you visited a fair, and you had a stall offering fun things like games, or mystery bags? That's the kind of vibe I wanted.

BUT - opportunities are not granted, they are created. I decided to just book my own market. I'm feeling like it's a bit crazy, but I had to put myself out there. I'm really not a social person, despite my background in management and customer service - but I just felt it was the change I needed, being a stay at home mum, and with this whole stay home sentiment.

At the moment I have this crazy rush to get basic things prepared (like shopping for furniture), need to somehow sort my stock and see how much range I have, continue to create more things in case if I need more stock (which results in ordering more parts and materials), and I'm building a website too. I feel like I have been preparing for a market any way, but it is a bit hectic right now. I'm glad I have decent time management skills - phew!

I've somehow been living on an average of about 5 hours of sleep per day (I've been like this for about half a year now, and don't worry, it's not because of Mochi La Vie, but more to do with home).

So Sydney-siders - keep an eye out for more updates. I will reveal the location about 2 weeks prior (which is, pretty much in a few days!). Hello, more sleepless nights to come!
